Symptoms of Gestational Diabetes
Gestational diabetes is a temporary diabetic condition of woman during pregnancy. Around 3 to 7 percent woman poses gestational diabetes. However Gestational Diabetes does not exhibit any symptoms. So some tests are to be conducted to find it out. These tests are taken between 24 to 28 weeks time.
Sometimes women show symptoms of gestational diabetes which are same like type 2 diabetes. They are
- Increased thirst
- Increased hunger
- Frequent urination
- Nausea and vomiting
- Fatigue
- Blurred Vision
- Weight loss
- Bladder and yeast infection
There are some factors which put some women at high risk of Gesatational Diabetes. These factors include
- Women with age more than 25
- Obesity
- Having Gestational Diabetes during previous pregnancy
- Having given birth to larger baby previously
However Gestational Diabetes is not confirmed, until you tests for it. There are certain tests that need to be carried out which include screening test, oral glucose tolerance test, 3 hour glucose tolerance test.
Depending upon the results, pregnant woman have to follow certain diet and exercise plan. Sometime they also need insulin therapy to control Gestational Diabetes.
Gestational Diabetes is no longer being there after birth. However there is most chance that it will be there during next pregnancy and also type-2 diabetes in future. Baby also suffer from some problem such as jaundice, low glucose level immediately after birth, breathing problem, obesity if Gestational Diabetes is left untreated.
